Hi folks – here are a few photos from the Derry guitar weekend just passed. More can be viewed on our Facebook page.
Red Sails Festival Portstewart, 28th July 2018 – Society members Norman Breakey and Damien O’Connor performing in Warkes Deli on Portstewart Promenade. They entertained customers for over an hour with and impressive programme of music by O’Carolan, Vivaldi, Bach, Scott Joplin, Albeniz and also included a range of popular classics and guitar music performing solos and as a duet.
Next Sunday 3rd June (and not 10th June as previously posted) is the Society’s AGM and we would welcome you to attend. If you have any matters which you would like discussed please bring those forward. The AGM will take place at 3pm in Ulster College of Music.
Unfortunately the Derry Guitar Festival will not take place this year due to funding issues but the society is to have its director Sean Woods for a weekend of workshops, ensemble and master classes in Derry. It will be the usual Bank Holiday weekend in August and scheduled to run from Sat 25th to Sun 26th August. It would be best to arrive on the Friday evening so that all of Saturday and most of Sunday would be available. Sunday night is usually a Gala Concert but a members’ recital could take place at that time. Members (and anyone else who would be interested) should contact the society or Keith to express interest as soon as possible!
4.00pm-5.00pm Cafe Music Session-Damien O’Connor & Norman Breakey
Damien and Norman are both from Portstewart and will be playing a variety of classical guitar music from 3 centuries by composers including JS Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Ferdinando Carrulli, Turlough O’Caraolan, Scott Joplin and others.
Location: Warkes Deli
Hi all – as part of the Ards Guitar Festival, John Feeley will be running a guitar workshop at 11am on the 6th April (recital with CGSNI on the 5th). It’s £10 per ticket and participants are advised to bring their guitar.
Book tickets at the Ards Guitar Festival website.
The next meeting of the society will take place Sunday 5th March at 3pm in the usual spot of Ulster College of Music at Windsor Avenue.
This month we have Brian Keenan coming to give a performance at the meeting. As well as this the society’s ensemble group will be playing before hand in preparation for their performance at the Ards Guitar Festival in April.
There will be some time in the first half for members’ performances too.
Sure to be a great meeting!
See you then!
Just a reminder – don’t forget about this month’s meeting on Sunday 4th November at 3pm in the Ulster College of Music, Windsor Avenue, Belfast.
The summer social will be a Norman Breakey’s house in Portstewart on Sunday 28th June beginning at 3pm. Bring whatever you want to cook plus something to share.
For directions to the venue, please contact the CGSNI secretary directly.
Please also let the secretary know if you can come to help Norman with preparation, and if you are prepared to car share if coming from Belfast. As this is a social event, family members are also welcome.
Hope to see you there!
I received a message today from Evelyn McKittrick to say that there would be a memorial to David In the Crescent Arts Centre, University Road on Friday 5th June from 6pm to 7pm. I think it is important that the Society is well represented so please come along if you are free.
