Upcoming Events 2014/15

Hello everyone!

The Society is gearing up for the next year of activities, and the events page has been updated with the next round of dates for meetings. Have a look to see what’s happening!

Some important things to note for the near future:

The first meeting of the Society will be on the second Sunday of September. That is, the 14thSeptember at 3pm in Ulster College of Music, Windsor Avenue, Belfast. It will be a regular meeting giving opportunities for everyone to perform in small or large groups, or simply to listen.

Holywood Culture Night will be held on Friday 19th September at High Street Presbyterian Church, Holywood (same venue as previous years). The plan at the moment is for the Society members to play 2 x 30 minute slots with a 30 minute break, beginning at 7pm. This will limit the number of players who can be accommodated but please let me know if you would be willing to participate and I shall see who can be fitted in.

Ards Guitar Festival takes place from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th October. Members of the Society will perform on Sunday 5th Oct at 7.30 pm in Kiltonga Hall. Because time is again limited the majority of the performance will be devoted to the work of the ensemble. The main performer will be Pat Coldrick from Dublin. Those of you who saw Pat at the City of Derry Guitar Festival last year will know what an entertaining performer Pat is and what a range of repertoire he has.

Hope to see you at the next meeting!

Guitar For Sale

An individual has gotten in touch with the society with a guitar for sale. Below is the description:

“I have a classical guitar made by Scottish luthier Colin Morrison which I would like to sell and I wondered if any of your members might be interested? Obviously the market for classical guitars in N Ireland is small so I thought making contact with your society might be the best way to reach someone who might be interested.

It is a rosewood guitar with spruce top in very good condition, it was refurbished by the luthier himself before I bought it having been previously owned by a professional classical guitarist in London. It has been played rarely since as work/family commitments have left me without enough time for it. It comes with a Hiscox hard case.”

If anyone is interested, please contact the Secretary at secretary <dot> cgsni <at> gmail <dot> com.

Upcoming Recital and BBQ

Hi folks,

Members Robert Cuthbert and Keith Thompson will be playing a fundraising recital of guitar duets on Thursday 19th June (7.30pm) at Macmillan Information and Support Centre on the Lisburn Road (flyer).  Donations will be to support the work of the centre.  We hope some of you will be able to come along.

The final meeting of the session will be the Society barbecue at Colin Burnside’s house on the 29th June.  Colin has a large garden and there is garage space if we need to barbecue in the rain (like 2013).   As usual, please bring with you what you want to barbecue, your drinks and some additional salads/sweet stuff to share (we have generally get an interesting selection without needing to organise this).  We meet at 3pm and finish around 6pm.
It would be helpful if you could let Keith know if you are coming so that I can give Colin and idea of numbers to expect. Please contact Keith for directions as well.
Hope to see you there!
